Crown Town Wiffle Weekend

 Crown Town Wiffle Weekend

July 19-21, 2018

In 2017, we launched our inaugural “Wiffle Ball at the Hollow” fundraising event. The Wiffle ball game and luncheon aimed at business leaders was played on a one-of-a-kind Wiffle ball field designed by architecture firm HOK in our host’s front yard. It was an opportunity for men and women to be kids again…in a setting that kids dream about. Thanks to our awesome players and sponsors, the sold-out “Wiffle Ball at the Hollow” netted nearly $75,000 for “C” You In The Major Leagues and other charities based in the greater Kansas City area!

After the event we got together and asked, “How can we make a magical event even more magical and, quite frankly, make a bigger impact on Kansas City?” It took about seven seconds to decide on the new twist for 2018: a two-night tournament at Kansas City’s newest baseball gem, the MLB Urban Youth Academy in the 18th & Vine District. The tournament is open to 32 teams of nine to 16 players, men or women or co-ed, of all skill levels, from 14 years old and up. With this addition of “Wiffle Ball at the Academy,” we’re now calling this three-day event Crown Town Wiffle Weekend!

The fun and whimsy of last year’s event will remain on Saturday, but on July 19 & 20, the UYA will be transformed into Wiffle heaven. But with the addition of the tournament and the new name, we felt we needed an Honorary Commissioner for Crown Town Wiffle. For the inaugural year of this grand celebration of all things Wiffle, there was only one choice for this role: Hall of Famer George Brett! George is scheduled to take part in the pregame festivities at the UYA on Thursday night, including a VIP reception for many of our sponsors, and then is scheduled to be at “the Hollow” on Saturday.

Online Auction

Our 2017 auction, which was open to everyone, raised exactly $25,000! Items included a used champagne bottle from the 2014 Wild Card celebration; jerseys signed by George Brett and Salvador Perez; bats signed by Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer; and experiences including a luncheon for 12 with 1980 “Miracle on Ice” defenseman Ken Morrow, and a leadership luncheon for 12 with Dayton Moore. We will have a bigger auction this year, and once again it will be open to everyone in early July! Stay tuned for details.
